Dearest Ray,
You must be wondering what I’m doing at home. You know I don’t go out on Thursdays, but I’m still working. I made follow-ups and appointments for next week.
I’ll be picking up Brij tomorrow night and drive to Cainta with her to go to Susie’s parents’ in laws place. Actually I’m feeling on the verge of social laziness. I’ve gotten so used to staying home after work and all I want to do after is just unwind, write to you or catch up on my reading. But she doesn’t have a ride and so I have to go. Have to remind her though we have to leave earlier as night driving now isn’t something I relish.
It was so nice of you to call, nicer still to hear you laugh, still the tease despite the unholy hour. Yeah, I’m tired from yesterday, a mix of the heat and the driving. What I do these days is use my dumbbells and sweat it out in the early mornings before I leave for work. I know it doesn’t compare to a total workout at the gym, but I feel better after - like a burst of renewed energy which I need.
I got your card, the one that says “I never realized, I never dreamed, I never knew…” yesterday. I keep some of your cards and pictures in the car. I like this card, about meeting someone you never imagined you would. It exactly expresses my emotion the first time we met- excitement, nervousness, anticipation. You are so good at summoning the exact words in the cards you send.
Andrew called asking permission to spend the rest of the summer in Paranaque. He’s been invited to join the basketball league games with his friends and has a uniform already. He’s shown an interest in playing the guitar (he can play the organ already) so I said I’ll look into it. Anyway, this is better than him having to stay indoors. I drive Jess back to her dad’s office tomorrow, as they’re going to the beach.
Ray, you gotta promise me you’ll fly here if I don’t get my visa. But of course, there’s no reason why they won’t.
So hopelessly enamored of you, it hurts. Take care of yourself.
Jas

Dearest Jas,
Aah, it feels good to get back on the computer chair, haha! How was the party last night? Were you able to make an early exit? What time did you get home? Who drove you crazy..? I mean who drove you home? Haha! Do I sound like a private detective? Did anyone fall under your spell at the party, again? They can look, but they can’t touch. Mine! Just like what toddlers say, mine!
Got your mails and attachments. I’m overwhelmed by the number of missives I’ve received. I woke up at 2 a.m, went to the john, and back to sleep. I didn’t bother checking your mail, cause it was too early.
It seems I can’t sleep straight these days, knowing you are coming to visit soon and in the same token, moving to my new place. I’ve become stagnant staying in this cramped basement space. I can’t really do the usual things I do, like play my favorite music, watch my TV shows, or eat my kind of food (veggie salad and sardines, with ripe papaya, what a combination that was. I wonder how did we arrive at that breakfast mix?) However, it’s no big deal. When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
We watched Double Jeopardy tonight, and there was a question about a book. I answered it correctly, Splendor in the Grass, have you read it? I’m not a bookworm like you, but I did read a few back when I was in university. One of my favorites is The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. I like Leon Uris too, and I used to subscribe to Readers Digest but stopped when I didn’t have time to read anymore. But I’m been a member of National Geographic for over 15 years now. And you thought I collected Cosmo too? Haha!
So, you didn’t see the consul? Take your time, Jas. Am I being too pushy? You’ll be surprised Canadians are down to earth. Don’t worry about a thing. You will get your visa, take my word.
Got to go now. I will call you. Now, take care…for you, for me, for us.
Ray
